Frequently Asked Questions

The following are the most frequently asked questions I receive from prospective Orange County divorce clients. Please contact us to discuss any questions you have. We are here to help and get you going on the right path.

Q. Do you offer free consultations?

A. No. We offer a low cost and affordable initial consultation that we believe will be much more valuable to you than a typical “free” consultation.

Q. Can you tell me approximately how much my case will cost in the initial consultation?

A. Yes, but it will only be a range and the range we give could be off depending on different factors. We prefer to provide you with a budget after we have reviewed your file and become familiar with all of the facts, which isn’t always possible at the initial consultation, but we can certainly give you a range that will be useful to you as a start.

Q. Do you require a deposit up front before you get started?

A. In most cases, yes, and the amount of that deposit will depend on the complexity of your case. Sometimes, we can get started without a deposit if your spouse is a very high income earner and you have no income and no access to assets at that time.

Q. Will I receive personal attention from my lawyer?

A. Absolutely. Only the lawyers at Farzad Family Law, APC give legal advice and only the lawyers handle your case. Although we do have non-attorney staff, the work they do is simple. Almost without exception, your important legal papers are completed by an attorney and when you have questions about your case, it’s an attorney with whom you will speak.

Q. Will you, B. Robert Farzad, be involved in my case?

A. Yes, from the beginning to the end but I may not be the one that handles the day to day of your case as we have several attorney at the firm. Sometimes, my role is more active and sometimes it is not and that will also depend on your case.

Q. How quickly can you meet with me for the initial consultation?

A. Normally, within 24-72 hours and sometimes, the same day. I am a bit of a workaholic and, when my clients need me, I make myself available in the evening and weekends as well. The consultation is typically with either me or one of our senior attorneys.

Q. How will you send me paperwork about my case after I hire you?

A. However you like. We prefer email and sending attachment via PDF. It is faster and it allows you to keep an electronic copy and, if you wish, a physical copy. If you don’t have an email, we insist you get one and we prefer Google’s gmail because of its capacity to receive attachments.

Q. Do you offer mediation services?

A. Yes. If you and your spouse wish to jointly hire us to serve as mediator, we will do that for you. However, that means once we start as a mediator, we have to stay as a mediator. We cannot later represent you because it would be a conflict of interest. Therefore, we should talk about this before you make the decision to see if it is the right choice for you.

Q. Do you handle collaborative cases?

A. Absolutely. We will be happy to collaborate your divorce case and bring it to resolution.

Q. Will you offer references?

A. Yes. While we always have to ask permission of other clients, we’ve never had a client say no. We can offer you the names and numbers of other clients we have represented and have you speak with them so you can hear first hand how pleased they were with our services.

I look forward to hearing from you. Call or email me. Let’s talk. Let’s find solutions together.

Warmest Regards,

B. Robert Farzad
